Textile Studio & Haberdashery

I’ve developed a range of vintage & new haberdashery creativity packs & kits. I stock quality brands that I have used in my many years as a textile artist, brands that I can vouch for and recommend such as Appleton’s fine crewel wool and Tulip’s excellent Hiroshima needles. I also sell my own range of hand dyed, hand painted mulberry and tussah silks as well as Top Floor Art Studio hand spun and hand dyed yarns.

There is no doubt vintage haberdashery is beautiful in its design and packaging and evokes an era attractive to the slow stitcher but can it still be used? Many people will tell you that vintage yarns and threads will perish, old scissors and tools will dull and linens will fox with age. However, there is nothing quite like sewing with a well kept cop of vintage silk! Quality is key, which is why I only sell vintage haberdashery I would be happy to work with myself. Scroll down to find out more about how our vintage & new haberdashery can kickstart your own creative needlework journey.

I hope you will be inspired to design and make - there is nothing better than the sense of achievement from finishing a handmade project. However many people need a helping hand to kickstart their creativity. I have designed a range of kits for those who like a directed project with instructions but with design and material choices to personalise your creation. My creativity packs provide you with beautiful, quality vintage and new materials to spark your imagination. All kits and packs include a link to a private help and inspiration page were you can access hints and tips to aid your progress. Visit our Store to view our ranges of kits and packs.

Making

I sell a range of vintage and new haberdashery to use and love, from my studio at Top Floor Art. I believe in reusing, upcycling, mending and the beauty and resonance of vintage materials and tools. Our range of vintage scissors and tools are reconditioned and sharpened in-house guaranteeing a quality experience. We also offer a scissor sharpening service allowing you to lengthen the working life of your old, well loved scissors and tools.

Workshops & Consultation

You can book an appointment with me for a variety of textile consultations. Perhaps you need advice about an antique or vintage heirloom you wish to conserve, restore or adapt into a new project. Or you may want a bit of help with that work in progress that has been lurking in the back of your cupboard for too long. Whether its a new project, encouragement and help to complete a kit or a bit of direction about design application I can offer either online or covid adapted face to face sessions. Please contact me here if you would like to enquire about booking a workshop or creative appointment.

Ready to Create

As an artist and maker with many years professional experience in textile arts, I find I am at my most creative and inspired when I’m working with other people. Whether I’m working on a personal commission or as a facilitator for a community group there are connections to be made and many stories to tell.

It is very exciting to see the variety of work a group of people can create even if they are using the same basic materials.

I’ve created a range of kits, creativity packs and resources. Included in all the packs & kits is a password for the  ready to create area which will hopefully help you on your creative journey.
